THE MOVEMENT

San Juan Sound (SJS) is a certified nonprofit movement devoted to providing access to music for Puerto Rico's music programs and independent artists impacted by the islands historic economic and natural disasters. Through the program Gift Of Sound, SJS unites with veteran leaders in the arts and compatible organizations to provide stimulating experiences in recording, workshops, concerts, and instrument donations. The movement is driven by fundraising, sponsorships, and professional services offered through SJS's premiere recording studio.

THE JOURNEY TO NOW

What originated as a small project to diversify the airwaves in Puerto Rico took on a life of its own. The blueprint for San Juan Sound went from a modest radio station to a full blown multipurpose recording studio, the first of its kind in Old San Juan, the continental United States second oldest city. Then came Hurricane Maria and instead of running, SJS grew even bigger and stronger before turning into a category five nonprofit music organization. The story is overflowing with stories from all corners of the island and enough blood, sweat, and tears to last what felt like a lifetime. Most of our surreal journey was documented and we promise to share our journey with you in the future. Right now we have more important things to do!

HOME OF THE WORLD'S FIFTH RADIO STATION

THE HISTORY

San Juan Sound resides within a half abandoned building once home to WKAQ, the worlds fifth radio station and first in Puerto Rico. WKAQ remains one of the islands most popular radio stations. The buildings rich history will be discussed at length on our upcoming SJS blog so stay tuned. Additionally, we will be hosting some of Latin America's finest ghost hunters this winter to confirm the inspiring spirits lining our walls. Quite a few visitors to the studio have witnessed the buildings resident ghost(s) who love turning on our jukebox of local 45's from the 50's-70's.

Live Sessions Right Before Your Eyes

SAN JUAN SESSIONS

Come experience the San Juan Sessions featuring live studio recordings inside the islands most unique recording facility of sound. All shows are free with a suggested donation and RSVP only unless otherwise specified. Space is limited, so keep an eye on our instagram page for all news regarding the San Juan Sessions. The studio will also announce spur of the moment ``Mystery Jams`` with local artists and special guests.
